About HAS
The HAS (Hungarian Astronautical Society, abbreviated as MANT in Hungarian) is a civil organization founded in 1986.
Our first predecessor in title was established in 1956, a year before the actual start of the "space age".
Our society
- Gathers Hungarian space researchers, everyday users of space
technology and everyone who is interested in the interdisciplinary and state-of-the-art uses of outer space
- Recruits people for space research and engineering
- Uses space research and applications to educate about physics,
astronomy, (space and flight) medicine, biology, (space) law,
flight technology, meteorology, material sciences - showing them in
new perspective, in a way that is missing from the school curricula
- Develops the independent and team-working skills and creativity of
students by organizing youth competitions, group competitions and
summer space camps
- Helps the scientific and technological education of Hungarians in
other countries
The HAS keeps the memory of the great Hungarian pioneers of
astronautics and keeps contact with Hungarian space researchers and
engineers working abroad.
The HAS represents Hungary in the International Astronautical
Federation (IAF) and some of its members are in the International Academy os Astronautics (IAA).
The most talented members of the youth section of HAS represent
Hungary in various international astronautical events, e.g.
- International Space Camp (USA)
- EURISY forums (Europe)
- International Space University
- competitions of The Planetary Society (USA)
HAS has been organizing a successful summer space camp for secondary
school students since the mid-nineties.
HAS popularizes space research and everyday applications of space not
only in public events but also through media relations.
Our society has nearly 400 members.
